Digital Frontiers Media (DFM) was successful in attaining last minute tickets to attend DrupalCon in Washington, D.C. this March 4-7, 2009. DrupalCon is the official Drupal unconference that attracts the most talented open source developers and innovative web shops in the world and brings them together to share knowledge, make decisions on the future of Drupal, and get to know each other in person.
It's also the premiere opportunity for Drupal users to learn what they can do with Drupal, find partners for future projects, and meet the people behind the code.
Since we at DFM have been getting so cozy with Drupal in the last year and have decided to make it more of a focus in our future work, we decided to attend to meet many of those that we've worked with virtually in forums, on tutorials, and on projects together, and to learn more so that we can become even greater contributors to the CMS in the future. We attended along with Deep Thought Software, makers of Courier--the e-commerce/QuickBooks middleware solution.
DrupalCon has roughly doubled in size each year. This year, 1400 official registrants showed up to share knowledge and insight across 106 planned sessions and probably just as many unplanned ones, as well. Registrants came from as far away as Australia to attend.
We were very happy to have the opportunity to attend. We learned many new things and forged many new relationships that look very promising to be both productive and profitable for both our business and the open source community in the next few years. Some of the upcoming technologies will revolutionize the web and make many current technology standards obsolete in the not too distant future. Keeping educated keeps us competitive and also provides for some opportunities to make some good friends along the way.
Ask us about how we foresee the future of the web impacting the future of your online presence or business.
